Our Story
The story of our villa – A Tale of Love and Light
“Every morning, a little before or a little after sunrise, I am in the habit of going out to discover what is new in the desert. The desert begins here in Arad at the end of our road.”
The road is Nof Street, where Nof 64 Villa is located, on the seamline between the city of Arad and the open desert, across from the wadi overlooking the Dead Sea, an island of peace and tranquility in the enchanting expanse of a primal landscape.
Architect Itai Lewin, owner and manager at Nof 64 Villa, who studied also at the Faculty of Architecture at Sapienza Università di Roma, identified the architectural and design potential of Nof 64 project as a hotel villa.
Nof 64, a luxury vacation–retreat–hosting villa is a unique and exceptional oasis, being a rare desert adaptation inspired by Le Corbusier’s 1929 Villa Savoye, a milestone of international modern architecture
At Nof 64, the desert-version of the
Villa Savoye, Le Corbusier’s Five Points of
Architecture are incorporated and manifested in reinforced concrete.
The villa is characterized by its intense color scheme: shades of brown, rust, copper, and bronze, corresponding with the hues of the surrounding rock-scape – Arad stone and flint interplaying with the golden desert sand; salty turquoise, identified with the Dead Sea horizon; black, echoing the Bedouin tents and the traditional apparel worn by Bedouin women; white, typical of modern Bauhaus architecture; and gray, representing the brutalist style.
Two of the villa suites carry out a conceptual dialogue, adding poetic content and dimension, as an homage to Amos Oz, who lived and created on Nof Street for about three decades, and where he also penned A Tale of Love and Darkness and The Same Sea – two novels that feature Arad and Nof Street itself. In the shared lounge in the villa’s Library Complex, you will find all of Amos Oz’s writings available for reading.
The city of Arad – the first planned city in Israel (by Y. Pitelson), approved in 1964 – is located on a plateau (Kidod Range) overlooking the Mountains of Moab, Edom, the Plain of Sodom, the Dead Sea, the Judean Desert, Yatir, Tel Arad, and more. It is the perfect starting point for hikes and wilderness tours. The crisp desert climate, almost year-round comfortable weather, and high air quality make Arad a perfect vacation and leisure destination. In Arad, the biblical landscape meets the unique atmosphere.
